September 25 @ 7:00: Windborn (featuring Brendan MacLeod!)
(The Mercury Lounge, 56 Byward Market Square - Cover $8)
For the first time ever, the Kymeras are pleased to announce that a special guest, Brendan McLeod, will join them as a feature performer at their September 25 show.
Brendan will delight listeners with a retake of his show The Fruit Machine, first featured in Ottawa at Once Upon a Slam. In the 1950′s, the RCMP set out to fire every homosexual in Canada's civil service. In the process, they built a machine aimed at scientifically detecting homosexuality, which became known as ‘The Fruit Machine’. In his monologue of the same name, Brendan McLeod explores the absurd activities our nation has undertaken under the guise of protecting its families.
Brendan McLeod has been Vancouver's SLAM poetry Champion, the Canadian SLAM poetry champion, and finished second at the 2005 World SLAM championships, held in Holland. He has performed all over the world, at over 200 poetry readings, and is a touring member of The Fugitives spoken word and music troupe. He has an MA in Philosophy from the University of Waterloo.
The Fruit Machine will be part of the Kymeras’ next show, Windborn, where they’ll celebrate the fall equinox. The harvest is ripe and the leaves are turning, and the Kymeras will be sharing stories and poems about the most sinful, dangerous and juicy of fruits - apples.

The warrior queen returns! After a brilliant premiere at the NAC Fourth Stage last January, Kate, Ruthanne and Marie will be bringing Boudicca back to the stage as part of the Ottawa Storytellers' Shenkman Centre series.
